Hole Description

The first tee affords great views out to sea and across the bay to Scarborough castle. A short par 4 which provides an opportunity for a birdie, but beware the out of bounds to the right and beyond the green.

Hole Description

The balance is immediately restored. This is a long par four which many treat as a par 5 not only because of its length but because it is usually played into the prevailing wind.

Hole Description

Across the road and up the hill. A par 4 where a good tee shot should leave a short to mid iron shot to a well-protected green.

Hole 4

Hole Description

You are now into the section of the course where all the fairways are tree lined on both sides. The fourth gives you your first views across to the North York Moors. A par four with a pond to the left which is easily within reach for the medium to long hitters.

Hole Description

The first of 3 par 5 holes on the front nine. A good drive is a must with trees and out of bounds on the right and more densely planted trees on the left. It is reachable in two for the longest hitters, but to hit this well bunkered and narrow green requires accuracy as well as power.

Hole Description

Stroke index 1, a long and undulating par 4 which plays as a slight left to right dog leg. A good drive and a great second shot are required to score well.

Hole Description

The first par 3 hole and one which belies its high stroke index. The ascending incline and the formidable bunkering make this a tricky hole.

Hole Description

A par 5 requiring a downhill drive beyond a wide bunker which encroaches a long way into the right half of the fairway. A sloping green sits at the top of the hill and is protected to left and right by bunkers.

Hole Description

The final par 5 requires a drive across a ravine containing a water hazard. A second shot must negotiate a pond to the left and well placed fairway bunkers to both sides.

Hole Description

A very testing drive is required when playing from the white tees in particular. The narrow fairways and 400+ yardage make this an excellent golf hole requiring two good shots to reach a long green set in a slight bowl.

Hole Description

The most picturesque of par 3 holes with the tee shot to be played downhill and over a stream. Access to the green is via a stone bridge. Being on the right level is key to scoring well on the two tier green.

Hole Description

A long sweeping left to right dog leg par 4 which requires a long and well placed drive to stand any chance of reaching the green perched at the highest point of the course.

Hole Description

A short par 4 which provides an opportunity for a birdie on what is a relatively flat and large green.

Hole Description

A tight par 4 which requires some careful thinking. Lay up or go long for a shorter shot in to this tricky green that slopes left to right.

Hole Description

The challenging final par 3 is over 200 yards long has double bunkering to left and right of the green. The view from the tee out to sea signals that the tree lined section is coming to an end.

Hole Description

A good length par 4 with an off-set tee area which requires you to play to the right, or risk the trees and a well-placed fairway bunker on the left. A slight incline running down to the green can make approach shots difficult to judge.

Hole Description

This tough par 4 is made more difficult by the fact that it is usually played into the prevailing wind. The slight left to right dog leg requires a well-placed drive whilst the small well bunkered green requires an accurate approach.

Hole Description

The finishing hole is the same length as the 16th but plays very differently. Beware the road and out of bounds to the right and do not let the glorious views of the club House and North Bay take your mind off what can be a testing finish.
